Infographics IconCreating Infographics

From road signs, to social media posts, to resumes, infographics play a substantial role in how we consume and share information. In this workshop we will show you how infographics can be used to convey complex information in a concise and visually appealing manner.We will introduce some design tips that will help make your infographic clear and legible. We will also share some freely available resources where you can gather graphics and images that you can use in your infographic without the worry of infringing copyright. Join us as we build an infographic using some free online infographic creators and demonstrate how you can turn PowerPoint into an infographic creation tool.

Please note: Attendees are expected to have a basic understanding of PowerPoint.

For animated/video infographics assignments: We recommend that you attend either our Creating Videos with Keynote on a Mac or Creating Videos with PowerPoint on a Windows Computer workshops. We do not cover videos in the Creating Infographics workshop.

Live Action Video IconCreating Live Action Videos with Adobe Premiere Rush

Recording a video does not have to be an overwhelming task. Join us as we introduce recording video with a camcorder. We will discuss how scripting, planning and choosing the right equipment and digital resources will help you during the video recording, narration and editing process. Throughout this workshop we will use equipment that you can borrow from the Help Desk and we will use Adobe Premiere Rush to edit our project. We will also share some freely accessible tools that can be used to create some alternative forms of footage.

Please note: To install Adobe Premiere Rush on your own device, you’ll need Windows 10 (v1709 or later), or macOS 10.13 or later. Adobe Premiere Rush is also available through MyApps.

Animated videos can be a fun and effective way to captivate your audience while sharing important concepts and information. Join us as we demonstrate how you can use Keynote and free online tools, to create animated videos, infographics or to pitch a product or idea to potential investors. During this workshop we will also explore the use of narration in your animated videos and discuss how you can safely obtain graphics, images and music without infringing on copyright.

Please note: Attendees are expected to have a basic understanding of Keynote.

Digital Storytelling Spark.pngDigital Storytelling with Adobe Spark Video

Digital stories can be a fun and effective way to captivate your audience while sharing important concepts and information. Join us as we demonstrate how you can use Adobe Spark Video and other free online tools, to create digital stories. During the workshop we will also explore the use of narration in your digital story and discuss how you can safely obtain graphics, images and music without infringing on copyright.

3D printingGetting Started with 3D Printing

This is the second and final component in the certification process needed to use the Sandbox’s 3D printers. Users attending this workshop are expected to have already completed the online training module. Topics covered include: how to prepare a 3D CAD model for printing, the Sandbox’s 3D printing policy, key features of the 3D printers used in our studios and general tips and tricks for 3D printing.

Please note: 3D printing workshops are booked on a separate calendar. You will be able to sign up for a 3D workshop after completing the online training module. Additional 3D printing workshops can be requested by contacting the Sandbox at sandbox@senecacollege.ca

Blogs vs. Websites. Gain an understanding of the benefits of both blogs and websites and determine which format will best suit your project. Learn how design can be a very functional tool in communicating your message and in avoiding cognitive overload. During this workshop we will introduce free tools and readily available resources that will help you create and personalize your own website or blog.

An awesome presentation involves more than simply memorizing your stuff. Your delivery, composure and strong visual aids all play key factors in a meaningful and impactful presentation. In this workshop we will explore the benefits of using the storytelling model in your presentation, share some design principles that will help you avoid cognitive overload when designing your visual aids, and share some public speaking tips and techniques.
